With this series of lectures we aim to study some of the most common Latin expressions used in the Italian language. These expressions are used “sic et simpliciter“, as they are, without any translation.

Let’s see some of them::
– Una tantum, once in a while, therefore very rarely.
– Sic et simpliciter, so and simply, therefore without adding anything else and without variations.
– Ad abundantiam, to indicate that you provide some data or information that are more than expected.
– Sine die, without term.
– Ex ante ed Ex post, before you experience something, and after you have experienced something.
– Ex abrupto, suddenly.
– Deo gratias, thank God, often used to express, sometimes ironically, satisfaction or relief.
– Ex aequo, on an equal footing.
– Ad hoc, for that, meaning exactly for that purpose.
– A latere, in the margins.
– Do ut des, I give so that you give me. It is said when someone offers something expecting to receive something in return.

Here, there are only 10 expressions, but those used concretely in the language are many more. Here, for example, you can find 180 of them.

For this reason we would like to offer to our students these “UNA TANTUM LECTURES” about Latin expressions in the Italian language. They are single lectures to benefit from once in a while, and to be added at will (ad libitum) to their normal package of lessons.

During these lectures you will learn how to use these Latin expressions in the right context for the Italian language.

UNA TANTUM Lectures about Latin expressions in the Italian language

“Una tantum lectures” are aimed at knowing the Latin expressions present in the Italian language. “Una tantum lectures” are for those who have at least an advanced intermediate level (B2) of the Italian language. “Una tantum lectures” are single lessons that can be added to your lesson package. Each lesson lasts 60 minutes. “Una tantum lectures” cost 22 € per hour in case of individual classes and 12 € per hour in case of group classes.

The course will be held by Professor Ippokratis Kalogeropoulos who has taught Ancient Letters (Latin and Greek) for several years in French Schools.

Reading of the Ancient Classics in Italian language

In addition to the “Una tantum Lectures”, it is possible to agree with Professor Kalogeropoulos also to hold specific courses aimed at reading ancient classical texts in Italian with the aim of addressing some specific topics.Here are some examples: Homer, Odyssey: fidelity.
